Teammates

Teammates

I went to have dinner with my teammates at a Mexican restaurant called Montezuma’s Restaurants. It is located 2 minutes away from my apartment. My housemate Mayu works in that place, so I’m quite familiar with it.

Anyway, I had a chat with Murray about a week ago via YM. Murray is our project manager; a leader of the team. He told me how everyone in the team has worked really hard for this project. So he wanted to have a fun time together — away from our time-consuming assignments. We finally brought it up in the meeting on Monday. Everyone agreed to get together for dinner and I was the one who recommended the restaurant :P (As a result, I didn’t have to travel too far hahaha. I just had to walk for 2 minutes LOL).

I booked the table at 6pm. But Linus, Riza, David, and Keith arrived 30 minutes early. They lived around the same suburb, St Lucia, where our University is located. So they came to Taringa (the suburb where I live) together. I arrived at Montezuma’s few minutes after they arrived. Then came Lynn; and the last one was Murray. Linus joked that the last person who arrived was the one who paid all the bills :P . Well, we kept asking Murray to give us a treat… since he successfully got a job at a well-known company called PWC. He won’t be graduating until the end of this year, but he got a job already!! Whoa. I feel so behind hehe. He’ll start working in January next year.

Lynn told us about her “large” breakfast, the biggest one she had in her life. She said, “Don’t ever, ever order a meal that says ‘large’ or ‘jumbo’. I’m serious, it’s tooooo much!” After she described how “big” the meal was and showed the picture of it, the two Australians, David and Murray, didn’t react at all. That’s a normal meal for them. David even said, “Well, I eat that every single day. That’s my breakfast.” Hahaha. Lynn was stunned :P .

We had a great time! Soo many things to talk. The hottest one was about the feedbacks for our previous assignment, Project Plan, that we received few days ago. We were not very satisfied with the result, because the tutor thinks that our Project Plan was similar to the Project Plan that belongs to other team who did the course last year. Yes, I have to emphasise “last year” bit, because David — who is a tutor himself — thinks that you can’t compare someone’s work who did it this year to the one who did it previous years. It doesn’t work that way. A tutor can only compare student’s works of the same semester. Well, we can’t say much about it, because apparently, our lecturer informed us about this issue. If the rule worked that way, then the lecturer wouldn’t have raised the issue to us.

We were sooo surprised when we found out that David (a leader of programming team!) finished the coding for our next assignment! He said, he finished it in 2 hours!! Hahahaha. That’s crazy. I’d have to spend at least 3 days for that!!! Hehehe. We also talked about how Western people don’t beat or smash their kids. But Murray and David said their parents smashed them when they were young. And they won’t hesitate to do that to their own kids later on. Linus joked that, if David had a son, he would have told him to write 1000 lines of codes as a punishment. HAHAHA. But David replied, “No. I wouldn’t have done that. I would have just said ‘No internet for the whole week!!’ That’s much easier.” Hehehe. He said that he did it to his brother for few times. He blocked his brother’s internet connection :P . I tell ya, you have to be careful with IT people!!

After dinner, we headed to my apartment! I showed them my room. They all liked it. They were surprised that I shared a bed with Mayu. Hehehe. Well, I’ve been doing it for 2 years already!! :D Anyhow, we planned to have a barbeque for the next meeting on Friday at Murray’s apartment. But then Murray said he’s too busy to arrange a BBQ. He promised he will invite us for our first meeting next semester; perhaps before the Uni starts again. It’ll be fun!!

Oh, I had such a fantastic time!! Not only do we work very good as a team, but we also interact very well with each other. We get a long very well as friends, at Uni and outside Uni. Some people complained to me about their teammates who don’t work very hard for the project. I feel so blessed that I have these AMAZING people. Murray, Linus, and Lynn are really great in project management, David is an expert in programming, Riza is very very good in database-related stuffs, Keith is good in testing, and I’m quite familiar with designing user interface. We’re together with DIFFERENT talents and purposes. It’s just great!! :)

I’m so happy. Thanks Team, for such a wonderful night! :)
