My First Performance

My First Performance

Yes, I danced. And I loved it. Learning how to dance an Indonesian traditional dance was something that I loved back in Junior High School. And I can’t believe myself that I learnt how to do it again and actually performed it!!!

Thanks to my friends Mika and Riza who never failed to ask me to join Saman Dance group. I always refused to join everytime they invited me… I don’t know… maybe I wasn’t very confident doing it. Saman is a popular traditional dance originally from Aceh. It took me awhile to master the whole sets of movements… especially when we have to do them in great speed! But it’s an amazing dance and it actually makes me really proud of Indonesia, particularly Aceh :) .

On the pic: I’m the fourth girl from the left wearing a headscarf. Performing at Pesta Rakyat 2007 at Brisbane’s Powerhouse, where Project Pop was also invited to perform on that night :) .

Watch our Saman’s version at YouTube (this was taken last year at the Multicultural Festival).
