I’m not really addicted to doing stuff for the sake of greener environment — i.e. I won’t freak out if I don’t do recycle, nor do I worry if I use more plastic bags than I’m supposed to. But I do try to protect the environment — which is quite small compared to what my (former) housemates Mayu and Jenny do. Doing something small is better than nothing at all, rite?

I try my best to save the electricity and always encourage my family to do so — though I admit I leave my computer on all the time when I don’t even use it . I do feel damn irritated if somebody forgets to turn off TV or leaves the lamp on when nobody is actually in the room .

I never throw papers that can still be used (e.g. papers that are blank on one side). I used to collect these papers at my university’s libraries or printing section and in the office (of my previous job) so that I could re-use it for printing and other purposes. I also do the same thing at home — where we receive so many faxes and it consumes a lot of papers. This is just a small thing that I can do to save trees… yes, it’s quite insignificant but I don’t care.

So… anyway… I’ve been trying to influence my brother to do the same thing, especially the electricity part. He often leaves all lamps in his room, TV, Playstation, and computer on at the same time, while he is nowhere to be found. I totally freaked out. I told him many times to switch off everything when he goes outside of the house, but he never wants to listen. He told me, “Who cares???”

One day I was helping him with his Algebra homework and I saw his tiny pencil that he used and commented, “Why don’t you buy a new pencil?” And he answered, “This pencil is made of tree [which is completely not true] so I want to protect the environment! If I don’t, then there will be no trees and oh… how can we breathe?? We will die and I will be the one to be blamed.” (Sure… he is making fun of me hahaha)

I laughed out loud when I heard his comments. Oh, whatever, Aiman!!!
